ESD Hosts JD Crowe!
Everyone Welcome!
Don’t miss out on a meetup with JD Crowe, when the Eastern Shore Democrats host a special presentation on Saturday, March 19th at 11 AM. JD describes himself as a “Moderately disturbed cartoonist for Alabama Media Group and Reckon by AL.com. My primary job is to keep this state’s goober politicians from jumping the fence and becoming a nuisance to the rest of the country.” That sounds about right.
A native of Kentucky, JD now lives and works in Fairhope. He spent much of the 90s in California, lending his political acumen and funny take on things to the Los Angeles Times, the Sacramento Bee, the San Francisco Examiner, and the San Diego Reader. He also plied his trade as a freelance painter and travel writer.
Crowe won the 2020 RFK Human Rights Award for Editorial Cartoons. He received the 2018 Rex Babin Award for state and local cartoons from the American Association of Editorial Cartoonists in 2018. On winning the RFK Award, he had this to say, in his usual self-deprecating way:
“I’m just a dork who can draw a little, so it’s always a sweet shock to win an award for doing something I love,” Crowe said. “I am tickled and especially proud to receive this RFK Award – an award that focuses on human rights and injustice – for a body of work mostly comprised of Alabama’s dystopian politics – now mirrored by the Trump administration. As always, I thank this state’s voters for keeping the pond stocked with outrageously bassackward, corrupt leaders and politicians.”
Expect a whole lot of humor and some hard-hitting political observations when JD Crowe presents his unique point of view to our group. There will be time for questions and answers and a lot of intermingling with your neighbors as well as a chance to meet the man who keeps Alabama politicians on their toes.
Muffins and Coffee will be served. Childcare available. Please RSVP to this link, which includes an option for childcare.
